Plastic lens

Few days ago, Pentax came out with a kit prime lens that is mostly made of plastic. The idea was to provide an affordable prime lens, and this was meant to be an alternative to kit zoom lens.

Of course, many people at Pentax Forum were pissed. It makes the brand look cheap somehow. But, these guys are the same guys that complain about FA ltd being too expensive.

Tough crowd.

I think that plastic lenses are great. It takes horrible pictures.

Maybe it's the sand

I guess any place where I can take lame pictures like this is ok with me. I didn't realize that going to a new setting such as this would enhance the enjoyment of shooting. Hours went by without notice. It was called, only had a T shirt on, but barely noticeable, until the next day I got a head cold.

At Bandon dunes they started out with one golf course about 10 years ago, and over the years they have built 3 more that are just as outstanding if not more so. Each course has its own characters with so little in common, yet the common theme is very much felt on each hole.

Perhaps I would one day like to live there. Buy a piece of land on the beach, design and build a house just the way I want it, and then pass it onto my kid, or something like that.

Still stuck on Oregon

Southern Oregon was very nice. The place I stayed at was called Bandon. It is about 200 miles or so south of Portland. You take a small commuter plane that carries about 20 people from Portland to a city called Coos bay. You then take a car, drive 30 minutes on Interstate 101, and you are there.

A beautiful, quite town. Only about 1,500 people. Short but pleasant summer, gray, rainy, often stormy winder. What put this town on the map was the golf course called Bandon Dunes. A golf fanatic who is a greeting card mogul who bought 1,200 acres of land and hired this 20 something unknown unproven Scottish golf course architect to build a course, and now thousands visit this town, pumping millions into the economy.

The beach is undisturbed, completely absent of any humans miles of stretch at a time, huge rocks and gigantic dead tree roots tossed about on the beach, and of course many many species of birds circling around.

I would love to live in a place like this . . . . .

Dead Tree

I love this tree. This was taken at Old McDonald Course at Bandon Dunes golf club in Oregon, where I just returned from.

THis course has only been open for little more than 2 months. Up and coming American Architect Tom Doak has built a course that pays homages to the earliest of classic American golf courses. More about this on later.
